How long do microblade pigments last?
While microblade eyebrows are often referred to as permanent tattoos, it's actually more accurately called "semi-permanent." The pigments used in microblades have a shorter duration of use than traditional tattoos. Generally, you can expect your brow makeup to last anywhere from 12 months to 2 years.
Most clients will be retouched around the 18-month mark to reapply the microblade pigment. There are many variables that affect pigment persistence, some of which are within an individual's control and some not.
The longevity secret of microblade brows
To keep your treated brows looking their best, you must follow the aftercare instructions given to you by your microblading artist. These include:
1. Avoid sweating in the brow area for about a week after treatment. During recovery, strenuous, sweaty workouts, prolonged hot showers, swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas should be avoided
2. Keep away from direct sunlight after your microblading procedure. It is important to minimize sun exposure during the healing process, using SPF on your brows or covering your face in the sun with a hat or visor will help keep your brows looking fresh
3. It is also highly recommended to avoid staining your eyebrows during the healing process after microblading. Any makeup deposited on the brows interferes with the skin's ability to seal in the pigment.
4. If you smoke, it's best to quit within a week or so after microblading, as the chemicals in cigarettes and e-cigarettes can affect your skin's ability to heal effectively.
5. Skin hydration is essential for its healing factors. The more hydrated your skin is, the faster and more effectively it will heal. Drink lots of water.
6. There are other factors that can affect how quickly or quickly the pigment locked in the skin fades over time after the initial healing period of the microblading has passed.
7. Don't use too much force when trimming your brows. Gentle stroking without disturbing the skin is best.
8. Retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C serum, and other acids may be detrimental to pigment integrity. Use skin care products with care, including lotions, sunscreens, cleansers, and makeup that contain these products. Any product labeled "anti-aging" contains acid and should not be used on the tattooed brow area.
9. Oily skin types are not as effective at retaining pigment. Excessive production of sebum (skin oil) disrupts the ability of pigments to adhere to the skin. To compensate, use skin care products designed to reduce oil buildup.
If you have oily skin, you will get a specific aftercare regimen to help maintain pigmentation. You can expect less defined hair strokes for oily skin types, so a "powder" or "ombre" approach may be better than microblading alone.
10. When you're out and about, make sure to use sunscreen to protect your brows (and the rest of your face and neck!).
